Mitchell at 5 Months!

I can't believe he's 5 months old now! I looked at some newborn pictures of him and couldn't believe how small he was. Time goes too fast. Here's some things Mitchell can do now:
- Sits up by himself for a few seconds at a time. He usually leans forward too far and ends up stuck!
- Grabs EVERYTHING that he can. If it's close enough to him, he'll grab it and put it in his mouth.
- Rolls over!! He goes from back to front and one time he went from his tummy to his back. Today was a little exhausting because I would lay him on his back, a few seconds later he'd be rolled over and fussing because he doesn't like to be on his tummy and because his arm was stuck because he rolled on top of it. I spent a lot of time helping him roll back over. Silly kid. This morning he woke up around 5am and I waited a couple minutes to see if he would go back to sleep. When I went in to look at him an hour later, he was sleeping on his stomach with his arm trapped. ha!
- When you come to get him out of his carseat, he pushes his elbow back and arches his back to get out. It's so funny and actually really helpful! It's easier to get my hands around him to lift him out!
- He can hold his bottle in random increments. One time he held it for almost the whole 4 oz. Sometimes he wants to hold it, others he doesn't.
- He has started to bat his arms and shake rattles and his toy keys on a ring. He bats his arms when he gets excited (when he sees his bottle or cereal or when we come to get him out of his carseat).
-He gets really vocal when he's tired. He'll talk and talk and squeal and scream. He sounds really happy about it but I know that it's just the beginning stages of crankiness.
- Mitchel LOVES Lacie. When she is in the room, all his attention is on her. When he's fussing because he's tired or hungry and the dog comes around, he'll stop and watch her. Lacie loves the attention. When he's laying on the floor, she'll come right up to him and he'll just pet her and touch her fur and sometimes grab it but Lacie doesn't mind.
- He loves his Dad. When we're nursing at night, Chris will come in and say something and Mitchell automatically whips his body around so he can see Dad and gets a huge grin on his face. It's really cute and ofcourse makes Chris really happy.
- We are in the process of weaning breast feeding. I don't want to quit cold turkey for him or for me. The last two weeks or so I have skipped nursing two or three times during the day but then nursed at night and then whenever he wakes at night. We'd nurse basically every other feeding during the day. Yesterday and today I've just nursed him first thing in the morning, at night, and once or twice during the night. Oh, and I pump right before I go to bed to mix with his cereal the next day. Usually that's only 1 ounce. I haven't decided when I'll be completely done. I have to say that I am proud of myself for nursing him this long since we started supplementing from the beginning. I wish I would have known some things at the beginning and I wish I would have had better resources in the hosptial, BUT I'm grateful for the things I've learned and to have a happy, healthy boy.
As always, we love our little boy! He's growing so fast and is so much fun!
