Being pregnant has had it's interesting moments. I've had some akward comments from people that I more or less expected ie: "You look like you're ready to pop!" (Oh how I wish it were that easy....pop! and out comes the baby....not quite) and some that I didn't quite expect ie: "You look like you're ready to explode!!!" and while I was sitting in the waiting room in the dentist's office a lady said, "Oh, it looks like that baby is more all over than just in front!" And then some people comment on things that should never be vocalized. For example!
1. Walmart cashier- I buy a baby outfit and she asks who it's for. I tell her that I, in fact, am the one expecting. She manages to tell me that she had her daughter 4 weeks early, that she has two uteruses and two cervixes (which is an actual medical condition) and that she went into the hospital on Thursday night and delivered around Saturday...or something like that. Mind you, we were in the express lane!!! We were done checking our 20 items or less and she was still going. It's amazing that some people will just tell you their entire life story (even the parts you don't mind missing out on) if they get a chance.
2. Matress sales associate who shall remain nameless but you might catch him on a local mattress commercial. He was your typical sales guy if you ever met one. He had the calogne you could smell when you walked in the store. He talked to us like we were his best friends! He small talked, then he let us know anything we would ever need to know about buying and sleeping on a matress. He knew it all. While we were deciding, he continued to schmooze us and got all buddy-buddy with us....a little TOO buddy-buddy. He talked about me being pregnant and feeding the baby and he mentioned the word nursing. THEN he turned to Chris and said, "Haha! Then you can get one of those lactation nurses and (wink, wink) that's the best because they know all about the _______!" (You can imagine what he said, I'm just a little too shy to type it for the blogging world to see) Chris immediately changed the subject and our sales friend noticed that. He said to me, "Oh, see him trying to change the subject?" I shot him a look that I don't think he'll ever forget. Kind of one of those, I'm not impressed/did you really just go there? kind of look. He went away for us to converse and Chris and I were completely beside ourselves. Some people are just outside of their minds.
3. This one happened today. I won't go into detail but the cashier at JC Penny's said, "Girl, you look like you is ready to go!!" Then she proceeded to tell me how she (and her man) helped her go into labor. Wow, seriously?!?! You really just told me that with other people around and within 30 seconds of coming face to face with me? I won't say within 30 seconds of meeting me because we didn't even do that! I do not know your name and the only reason you know mine is because I paid by debit card and it showed up on your cash register! Certain subjects are just treated WAY too casually these days.
But then you have those sweet people that make your day. A stranger in Meijer, when I was just about to call for a motorized wheel chair feeling exhausted and in pain, pointed to my belly and said, "You look super cute." Then there's those wonderful ladies at church. "You don't even look pregnant from the back! You look great!" And then a Seven-Eleven cashier that just looked at me with utter sympathy and kindness. "Come on, here sweetie." and then when I was leaving, "Good luck, honey." Being pregnant has been wonderful and the comments and stories have just made it that much more entertaining....slightly uncomfortable at times, but nonetheless entertaining.

Ugh, seriously! I think people think they need to say something so it usually ends up being something weird or rude. People were always telling me their labor horror stories. Of course they were all awful and full of complication, pain, and probably a little exaggeration. Why would you share that with someone who will be going through it soon?!?!? Yeah, that will make me feel more confident, lol! Then one day someone just said, "All my labors were easy, wonderful, and holding the baby for the first time was magic." That made me feel better and more confident in what I was going to do. Maybe women wouldn't be so afraid of birth if others weren't scaring them out of it with their horror stories! Oh well, you'll be fine, your baby will be fine and you look absolutely stunning : )
That's hilarious! You've got some good ones there. :)
